 What is Yoga?

"Yogah citta vrtti nirodhah"; Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations in the consciousness. Yoga is a way of life. It means to bind, to attach, to yoke, to commune. It is the connection of the body, mind, and the soul. It is an 8 fold path that combines philosophy, moral, physical, and spiritual discipline to help in the process and development of transformation. It can help increase agility, balance, strength, endurance, and overall vitality. Iyengar yoga uses props such as blocks, belts, sandbags, and blankets to help the practitioner to achieve perfection in a pose. When one gets into the correct posture, something happens to the body that has an effect on the mind, and that is the alignment and the balancing of the different parts of the self.
